Why we shouldn't give benefits to those who don't need them!

A cry for help!
Not unrelated to the ongoing medical card debacle - Read this and tell me that giving medical cards to wealthy pensioners is justifiable in a time of limited resources - In the face of real need such as this we need to target resources to where they are needed.

If the wealthy, pensioners and others, were taxed as they should be, there would be funds enough both for universal medical cards and for such marvellous institutions as St Catherine's.

We Irish pay around the lowest taxes in Europe, which is why our public services are a disgrace!

Thank you so much for spreading awareness like this for us.

It's truly embarrassing having to beg for money on a blog, if only life's true heroes such as St Catherines didn't have to rely on such insipid things as cold hard cash and politics!

Spot on Joc - Did you see the editorial in today's Irish Times http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/opinion/2008/1025/1224838827831.html
It is superb on this!

Kate - When the most vulnerable are neglected we undermine not only their humanity but our own - this is something that I have learnt from being with those with special needs, including my own son. This is one cause that is not optional.
